The method

Communication is never just language.

My job is to help you be decisive and expressive in English. That takes attention, timing, and confidence as much as grammar and vocabulary. Each lesson follows a practical loop: notice what is happening, practise the difficult part, and use it for a purpose that matters to you.

Lessons can use carefully chosen online resources, Oxford and Cambridge coursebooks, or materials created specifically for you.

  1. 01

    Notice

Hear and see how English works in context—meaning, grammar, rhythm, stress, and the choices effective speakers make.

  2. 02

    Practise

Work on the difficult part with focused prompts, useful repetition, immediate feedback, and space to ask questions.

  3. 03

    Use

Put the language to work in a discussion, simulation, exam task, presentation, or situation drawn from your life.

Meet your teacher

A short introduction to me and my lessons.

About Matt

An engineer who changed his mind about what he wanted to build.

I trained as an electrical engineer and worked in engineering, project management, logistics, and management. Languages kept pulling me back, and in 2011 I started teaching online.

Seventeen thousand lessons later, I've helped students pass C2 Proficiency, reach Band 8+ in IELTS, pass Chevening interviews, and communicate more clearly in demanding professional situations. Most often, I simply help people say what they mean when the moment arrives.

I hold the Cambridge CELTA—the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults—and a degree in Electrical Engineering. I'm currently studying for a degree in psychology with the University of London. My interest in how speech is produced, perceived, and learned feeds directly into my pronunciation work.

As a language learner, I know that understanding a language is not the same as being able to use it under pressure. I enjoy wide-ranging conversation and have never run out of things to discuss in a lesson.

Before you book

Questions, answered.

Who are the lessons for?

Adults, professionals, exam candidates, university students, teenagers, and younger learners. The best format depends on your age, current level, interests, and goal—which is exactly what the trial lesson helps us establish.

Will I follow a coursebook?

Sometimes. I use Oxford and Cambridge coursebooks when they offer the right structure, but I also select online resources and create original materials when your needs call for something more specific.

Can lessons focus on my profession?

Yes. Lessons can focus on presentations, interviews, meetings, negotiations, academic work, or specialist vocabulary. My former engineering and management experience is particularly useful for technical and professional communication.

Will you change my accent?

The aim is not to erase where you come from. We work on the sounds, stress, rhythm, and intonation that make you easier to understand and help you express your meaning more precisely. You can keep your identity while gaining greater control over how you sound.

Where can I see lesson options?

Current lesson lengths, packages, and available times are shown on my italki profile.

How do I start?

Book a trial lesson on italki and bring your goal. If you would rather ask something first, message me on WhatsApp or by email; I answer everything myself.
